Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago passes away at 71

It’s a sad day for the Philippines today as it lost one of the excellent politicians that has ever graced the halls of the Senate. Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago passes away at 71.

Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago is well-loved by the Filipinos. She has manifested how it is to be a proper politician and a great Filipino. Some may say that she is the “Greatest President that the Philippines Never Had,” much like how the it was said that Claro M. Recto is the best president that the Philippines never had.

One might remember that Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago ran against Fidel V. Ramos for the office of the Presidency. She lost that race, but there were allegations that she was cheated. Sources which I refuse to name say that Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago was supposed to be the winner of the 1992 Presidential Elections. Again, I would like to point out that those claims are unconfirmed.

Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago has several achievements that make the Filipino Nation proud. She is really a Filipino that is worthy of praise. She is and should be looked up to and her achievements should spring forth a new breed of Filipinos driven by success.

Another reason that the Filipinos love about Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago is her uncanny ability to think up of catch phrases that not only captures the smiles and laughter of the audiences, but gives life to the Philippine political world. These catch phrases are not only witty, they also speak of the truth. It lessens the boredom that audiences experience during Senate Sessions.

All those said, I salute you Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago. There will be no one like you. You will forever be remembered as one of the Filipino greats.

My sincerest condolences go out to the family and loved-ones of Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago.
